HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 will feature previously unseen content from the game's development, according to showrunner Neil Druckmann. Druckmann revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the show will include "pretty brutal" cut content, including elements from the "Lost Levels" partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster of The Last of Us Part II. These levels, such as Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offer varied tones, from the relatively peaceful scenes of Ellie at a party or tracking a boar, to the intense horror of her encounters with infected in the Seattle sewers.

This restored content promises intense viewing. Druckmann hinted at the inclusion of a previously unshown, "pretty prominent" character, similar to the Season 1 introduction of Frank. Season 2 will also introduce numerous new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, alongside Catherine O'Hara in a currently undisclosed role.
The April premiere of Season 2's first episode will offer some answers, but the adaptation of Part II will extend beyond a single season. Showrunner Craig Mazin has stated that Part II's narrative scope necessitates a multi-season approach. While a Season 3 renewal is pending, Season 2 is structured with a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
