Get ready for an exciting return to the world of Rambo, as a new prequel project titled "John Rambo" is in the works. Directed by Jalmari Helander, known for his action-packed films "Sisu" and "Big Game," this film is set to delve into the iconic character's past. According to Deadline, Millennium Media, the powerhouse behind the Expendables and Has Fallen series, is launching "John Rambo" at the Cannes market, an event that runs parallel to the Cannes Film Festival. This market is a prime venue for showcasing upcoming projects to potential investors and distribution partners.

Millennium Media, which also produced the 2008 "Rambo" and 2019's "Rambo: Last Blood," is bringing this new chapter to life. "John Rambo" will be set during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the 1982 classic "First Blood." While plot details remain under wraps, the film promises to explore Rambo's early days. Casting has yet to be finalized, and although Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo, is aware of the project, he is not currently involved.

The screenplay for "John Rambo" has been penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the talented duo behind "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam." Filming is scheduled to commence in Thailand in October, adding an authentic backdrop to the story. Helander's previous work on the 2023 WWII action film "Sisu," which transformed the John Wick formula into a tale of an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis, showcases his ability to handle high-octane action, making him a fitting choice for this prequel.
