Will Wright, the mastermind behind The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream. This innovative title, first hinted at in 2018, is finally taking shape under the development banner of Gallium Studio. Let's delve into the exciting features revealed.
The livestream, hosted by BreakthroughT1D (a leading organization dedicated to type 1 diabetes research), offered a glimpse into Proxi's core mechanics. Wright described Proxi as an "AI life sim built from your memories." Players input personal memories as paragraphs, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable, allowing players to refine the visual representation of their recollections using in-game assets.
Each added memory, termed a "mem," enhances the game's AI and contributes to the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D environment composed of hexagons. As the mind world expands, it populates with Proxies representing friends and family, mirroring the relationships within the player's memories. These memories, arranged chronologically, can be linked to specific Proxies, creating a dynamic and interconnected representation of the player's life. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds like Minecraft and Roblox!
The game's objective is to forge "magical connections with memories and bring them to life." Wright emphasized his desire for a deeply personal experience, hence the focus on player memories. He humorously noted, "No game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players," highlighting the inherently engaging nature of a game centered around the player's own life.
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's official website, with platform announcements forthcoming.
