Chris Brown, Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, recently stated in a VGC interview (February 25, 2025) that while they constantly evaluate potential additions to their competitive lineup, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't currently on the list. He humorously mentioned Pokémon Sleep as another example, referencing a past April Fool's joke about a Pokémon Sleep championship. However, he emphasized that there are no current plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join the competitive scene, though they remain open to future possibilities.

Early Stages and Balancing Concerns

While no official reasons have been given, fan speculation points towards the game's relative youth (only four months old with two sets released since its October 2024 launch) and ongoing balance issues. Although the app includes competitive features, players have voiced concerns about balancing. Pokémon TCG Pocket, designed as a simplified, beginner-friendly version of the original card game, may not yet be suited for a highly competitive environment.
