Kim MacAskill, a former narrative director at PlayStation, has launched a petition urging the creators of the Until Dawn movie to properly credit the game's original writers. As highlighted by Eurogamer, MacAskill's campaign seeks to persuade Sony to revise how it credits intellectual property (IP) in adaptations across different media.

In her petition, MacAskill expressed frustration over the current credits of the Until Dawn movie, which she claims only vaguely reference the source material as "based on the Sony game" without acknowledging the key developers who crafted the game. She emphasized the hard work and dedication of these developers, stating, "They spent years breaking their brains to make something incredible, and the world DESERVES to know their names... instead… No credit. No thanks. No honor."

Further elaborating on LinkedIn, MacAskill drew a comparison between the credits given to Neil Druckmann for HBO's adaptation of The Last of Us and the lack thereof for the Until Dawn team. She recounted a conversation with Sony executives, who informed her that her personally created IP would not receive individual credit due to her salaried status at the company, which does not include royalties or ownership.

MacAskill is advocating for an "executive producer credit or acknowledgment equivalent" for the creators of Until Dawn, arguing that such recognition would honor the vision and passion behind the game. She believes this would not only benefit the Until Dawn team but also set a positive precedent for the industry, inspiring future creators.

In her words, "Let's advocate not only for the Until Dawn creators but for the integrity of the industry. By ensuring that creative voices are properly recognized, we can continue to inspire future generations of creators who dare to dream beyond current constraints." MacAskill is urging supporters to sign the petition to push Sony to acknowledge the contributions of game developers in transmedia projects.

In other news, it was reported earlier that Until Dawn Remastered might be included in the PlayStation Plus games lineup for May 2025, possibly as a promotional move for the recently released Until Dawn movie. However, the movie received a lukewarm reception, earning a 5/10 rating from IGN, which described it as "more disappointing than deadly, leaving all the promise of the horror game behind for a jumble of horror-movie re-creations."
