Path of Exile 2: Freezing PC? Fixes Here

Developed and published by Grinding Gear Games, *Path of Exile 2* is a highly anticipated sequel to the popular action-RPG, offering a compelling experience for fans of games like *Diablo*. However, some players have encountered frustrating PC freezing issues. This guide outlines solutions to resolve these problems.

Troubleshooting *Path of Exile 2* Freezing Issues

Several players have reported their PCs completely freezing, requiring a hard restart, either during gameplay or when loading new areas in Path of Exile 2. While an official fix is awaited, several workarounds can mitigate this problem:

  • Graphics Settings Adjustments: Experiment with these in-game settings:

    • Switch between Vulcan and DirectX 11 rendering APIs.
    • Disable V-Sync.
    • Disable Multithreading.
  • CPU Affinity Modification (Advanced): If the above steps fail, a more involved solution, suggested by Steam user svzanghi, may help. This method requires adjusting CPU affinity for the game process:

    1. Launch Path of Exile 2.
    2. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc). Click "Details."
    3. Right-click on POE2.exe. Select "Set Affinity."
    4. Uncheck the boxes for CPU 0 and CPU 1.

This workaround prevents a complete system freeze, allowing you to force-quit the game via Task Manager and relaunch without a full PC reboot. However, you must repeat this process each time you start the game.

While this provides temporary relief, remember that this is a workaround, and a permanent solution is anticipated from Grinding Gear Games. For more Path of Exile 2 tips, strategies, and builds, be sure to check out The Escapist.
