Steam Player Count Soars After Patch 8 Release
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has unveiled its eagerly awaited final patch, concluding the game's remarkable journey. Released on April 15, 2025, by Larian Studios, BG3’s Patch 8 signifies the end of major updates for the title. The announcement of this final update has propelled the game's player count, pushing it just outside Steam's top 10 most played games. Previously hovering around 60,000 concurrent players, BG3 now boasts over 169,000 players as of the latest count.
Larian Studios' CEO, Swen Vincke, celebrated the player surge on Twitter (X) on April 22, attributing it to the robust modding community. He hinted at the studio's focus shifting towards their "next big thing," as Larian plans to move beyond the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) Universe. This shift leaves Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro to continue the Baldur’s Gate franchise, currently in discussions with other studios about developing a potential Baldur’s Gate 4.
