The development of The Outer Worlds 2 appears to be progressing well amidst Obsidian Entertainment's packed production schedule. CEO Feargus Urquhart recently provided updates about their sci-fi RPG sequel alongside their upcoming fantasy title Avowed.
The Outer Worlds 2 development continues steadily despite Obsidian's primary focus being their impending fantasy RPG Avowed. In a conversation with Limit Break Network, Urquhart reassured fans that the sequel to their acclaimed spacefaring adventure remains "progressing really well."
Urquhart praised the veteran team handling the project: "What impresses me most is we've got many original team members returning alongside seasoned developers who truly understand our vision." He acknowledged past difficulties during Microsoft's acquisition phase combined with pandemic disruptions, admitting there was consideration to pause Outer Worlds 2 development temporarily.
The studio faced numerous challenges while balancing multiple projects simultaneously: "After our acquisition, we navigated COVID restrictions while completing Outer Worlds expansions, launching Avowed's foundation, initiating Outer Worlds 2, plus developing Grounded and Pentiment simultaneously," Urquhart recalled.
The executive expressed satisfaction with their persistence, noting how Grounded and Pentiment exceeded expectations while Avowed shows tremendous promise and Outer Worlds 2 continues exceeding initial projections. While no concrete gameplay details emerged, Urquhart hinted at potential scheduling adjustments following Avowed's 2025 release shift.
Since its 2021 announcement, Outer Worlds 2 has maintained deliberate silence regarding its development. Urquhart addressed potential delays candidly: "We're committed to excellence over artificial deadlines - our track record proves we'll deliver." Both titles remain exclusive to PC and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
