Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks: "Not Official"

Nintendo has issued an unusual statement regarding the recent flurry of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. A company representative confirmed that the circulating images and videos are not official Nintendo materials, citing the company's absence from this year's Consumer Electronics Show. This marks a rare instance of Nintendo publicly addressing product leaks.

The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. A notable leak featured at CES 2025 involved accessory manufacturer Genki, who displayed a purported Switch 2 replica. Images of this replica quickly spread across social media.

In response to an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo clarified that its non-participation in CES 2025 means any Switch 2 imagery originating from the event lacks official sanction.

Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?

While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is an additional button, labeled "C," located below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains unknown. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai also mentioned other potential features, including magnetically attaching Joy-Cons and the possibility of using them as a mouse, corroborating existing speculation.

Nintendo previously announced plans to reveal the Switch successor during its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. Retail availability is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
