During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly its entire catalog of Nintendo Switch games will be playable on the new Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, several popular titles will receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, boasting unique features tailored for the new console. These games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game offers distinct upgrades. For instance, Super Mario Party: Jamboree introduces "Jamboree TV," enhancing gameplay with mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble," and integration with a new camera accessory.
Moving on, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will benefit from enhanced resolution, improved framerate, and HDR support. These titles will also feature a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, which provides voice guidance for locating Shrines and Koroks, and enables sharing creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled Star-Crossed World, along with improved graphics and framerates.
New titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR. Pokemon Legends: Z-A will see enhancements in resolution and framerate.
These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch can purchase upgrade packs for select titles, including Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

Later in the presentation, Nintendo also highlighted third-party games receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, such as Civilization 7, which will feature mouse support, and Street Fighter 6, which will include exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.
Nintendo hinted at the existence of "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week through a webpage footnote, which clarified that these games would not be transferable via the newly announced Virtual Game Card system to the original Nintendo Switch.
