Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Computer Mice

Emerging circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons could offer a novel functionality: operating as makeshift computer mice. While the widespread adoption of this mode by game developers remains uncertain, the potential feature aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative experimentation.

The evidence originates from Famiboards user LiC, who previously accessed Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This data source has fueled numerous Switch 2 rumors since mid-2024.

In early January 2025, LiC revealed further findings: customs manifests referencing polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "to stick to game console handles," and labeled as "mouse soles." This terminology, typically used for the bottom of computer mice, strongly suggests potential mouse-like functionality for the Switch 2 controllers.

Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were identified. These numbers haven't been found in public component databases, implying they represent unreleased products. The listed size, 90 x 90mm, appears large enough to cover the entire back of the Joy-Cons, likely requiring trimming during assembly.

Not a Novel Concept: Lenovo Legion GO Precedent

While a mouse-like controller mode fits Nintendo's experimental approach, it's not entirely unprecedented. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, already features a similar capability with its right controller, transformable into a mouse when rotated sideways. Lenovo even includes a plastic piece to facilitate smoother surface movement in this mode.

The Legion GO also incorporates magnetic rails for attaching controllers – a feature rumored for the Switch 2. This similarity offers a potential preview of Nintendo's hybrid console design.
