Nintendo has recently announced the pricing for upgrading two beloved titles from the original Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. Fans should brace themselves, as these upgrades come with a heftier price tag than anticipated.

To put things into perspective, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the Switch 1 version to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrades for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double that amount.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integrates with the new "Zelda Notes" feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app. If you already own the game on the original Switch, you can unlock these enhancements with a $10 upgrade pack.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land includes new story content in the "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree’s Switch 2 Edition introduces "Jamboree TV," utilizing the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Additionally, this edition offers upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.

Although U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet confirmed, potentially due to uncertainties surrounding President Trump's tariffs, the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99. This is significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The same price applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade, suggesting a U.S. price point of $19.99.

The $20 upgrade price for both games might be influenced by the substantial $80 cost of the full Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV. These games' original Switch versions are priced at $59.99 each, making the Switch 2 Editions $20 more expensive.

Here's a quick look at the prices for Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games in the U.S. for those opting not to upgrade:

  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

It's worth noting that subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online and the Expansion Pack can access the upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at no additional cost. Unfortunately, similar offers are not currently available for Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2, priced at $449.99, opened on April 24 and sold out rapidly. Nintendo has also issued a warning to U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store, stating that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to overwhelming demand.
