Despite garnering mixed reviews on Steam, Monster Hunter (MH) Wilds has captivated over 1 million concurrent players. According to SteamDB, MH Wilds achieved an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players. This number eclipses the records of its predecessors, with MH World peaking at 334,684 players and MH Rise at 231,360. However, MH Wilds currently holds a 'Mixed' review status on Steam, with only 57% of its 54,669 reviews being positive. The bulk of the negative feedback centers on the game's poor optimization for PC and various performance issues.

Capcom Responds To PC Performance Issues

In response to the backlash regarding MH Wilds' PC performance, Capcom has taken steps to address these concerns. Monster Hunter's official support account, Monster Hunter Status, issued a statement on Twitter (X) on February 28, 2025, offering solutions to the game's current issues. The statement directed players to the MH Wilds support website, which provides detailed troubleshooting advice, including updating video/graphics drivers, checking for Windows updates, and performing a clean installation of the video driver set.

For unresolved issues, Capcom advised players to refer to the "Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread" on the Steam community page, which contains additional steps to help resolve these problems.

Game-breaking Bug Blocking Story Progress

A significant game-breaking bug has been identified that prevents story progression for some players. This bug involves a crucial NPC not appearing during Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 A World Turned Upside Down. Monster Hunter Status acknowledged this issue on Twitter (X) on March 2, 2025, and confirmed that they are actively working on a fix.

Additionally, other reported issues include the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features not unlocking despite meeting the necessary criteria, as well as problems accessing the Smithy. The developers have responded with hotfixes and updates across various platforms to address these concerns.

Character Editing Locked Behind Microtransactions

In MH Wilds, character customization is tied to microtransactions. Players looking to alter their character or Palico's appearance must purchase the Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack for $6.00, which allows three character edits. These vouchers are available on all digital storefronts. While players can change certain aspects like hair, eyebrow color, facial color, makeup, and clothing, more extensive edits require a voucher.

For those interested in editing both their character and Palico, a $10 voucher offers three edits for both. However, Capcom is offering a single free voucher for character edits. These microtransactions were not part of the game's testing phase but were announced beforehand by Capcom.
