Dr. Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Deadrop
Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its anticipated FPS title, Deadrop.
In an X post, the studio stated, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The announcement included a plea for job opportunities for its talented team members.
Midnight Society was established by Beahm alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling (Call of Duty) and Quinn Delhoy (Halo). Deadrop, their flagship free-to-play PvPvE extraction shooter, aimed for a 2024 release but ultimately failed to meet its target. The game was set in a unique, retro-futuristic 80s-inspired universe, featuring characters with distinctive Daft Punk-esque helmets and a blend of firearm and melee combat.
The studio's closure follows a 2024 parting of ways with Beahm after allegations of inappropriate messaging with a minor via Twitch Whispers. Despite this separation, development on Deadrop continued until the recent shutdown.
Midnight Society's closure adds to the growing list of game studios facing challenges and restructuring within the current difficult climate for the industry, a trend affecting major players such as Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs.
