Following the announcement of an additional 26 cast members for the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Studios and Robert Downey Jr. have hinted that the cast reveal is far from over. The recent livestream not only confirmed a robust lineup of actors joining Robert Downey Jr. in the superhero epic but also marked the beginning of production.
One of the exciting surprises was the return of Channing Tatum as the beloved X-Men character, Gambit. You can explore the full cast list of Avengers: Doomsday here.
However, fans quickly noticed some notable absences from the roster. Key Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) figures like Tom Holland's Spider-Man, Chris Evans' Captain America, and other fan-favorites such as Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Rhodey were missing. On the X-Men side, there were no announcements for Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, or Jean Grey.
The absence of these iconic characters sparked disappointment among the fanbase, but hope remains. Robert Downey Jr., who will transition from Iron Man to the role of Doctor Doom, teased on Instagram that more announcements are on the horizon. "That’s what u call a deep bench of talent," he remarked. "Actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it.. right?"
Marvel Studios chimed in with a comment suggesting "there's always room for more." The Russo Brothers, who are directing the film, added to the excitement by stating, "It’s time…"
It's evident that Marvel is not finished unveiling the cast for Avengers: Doomsday. The big question remains: who else will join the fray? Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments.
Earlier this month, the Russo Brothers shared their vision for Avengers 5 and 6, describing them as a "new beginning" that will set the stage for Phase 7 of the MCU. Joe Russo emphasized the importance of villains who believe they are the heroes of their own stories, stating, "That’s when they become three-dimensional and they become more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well shaped character for the audience. That’s where a lot of our focus is going."
Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on May 1, 2026, followed by Secret Wars in May 2027. Leading up to these blockbusters, fans can look forward to Thunderbolts* in May 2025, the TV series Ironheart in June, and the kickoff of Phase 6 with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
Additionally, Marvel Studios has added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule on February 18, May 5, and November 10, with speculation growing that one of these might be an X-Men film.
