Luigi’s first starring role on Switch was in Luigi’s Mansion 3, the third entry in the character’s only solo series to date. In this game, our timid hero and his green gooey clone team up with Professor E. Gadd to battle ghosts and save his friends from King Boo’s haunted hotel.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is a remake of the 2013 Nintendo 3DS game Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. In this second game of the spooky series, Luigi ghostbusts his way through the mansions of Evershade Valley to capture King Boo once again and save his brother.
While not exclusively a 'Luigi game,' Mario & Luigi: Brothership puts the brothers on equal footing. As the first release in the Mario & Luigi series since Paper Jam in 2014, players take on the role of both brothers, navigating puzzles and platforming challenges to restore the kingdom of Concordia.
Luigi first appeared as a playable character on Switch in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. As a middleweight racer, he boasts a well-balanced stat distribution that slightly favors speed and handling. His appearance in an ad for the original Wii U version of Mario Kart 8 even sparked the Luigi Death Stare meme.
Luigi next appeared in the Nintendo-Ubisoft collaboration Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. This tactical RPG allows players to include both Luigi and Rabbid Luigi, a Rabbid who mirrors Luigi's attire and behavior, in their party.
Luigi hit the court as one of 16 playable launch characters in 2018’s Mario Tennis Aces. Known for his balanced, “all-around” character stats in Mario sports games, Luigi's specialty shot, Pipe Cannon, launches him into the air for a powerful spike.
Luigi is one of 20 playable characters in Super Mario Party. As the younger of the Mario Bros., he has appeared alongside his brother in every Mario Party game to date, including the two others listed below. This was the first Mario Party game released for Switch and ranks as Nintendo’s ninth best-selling game on the platform, according to the company.
Luigi is an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. As one of the 12 characters playable in all five Smash games, he holds an A+-tier ranking on LumiRank’s 2025 tier list, placing 18th overall among 93 ranked Smash players.
Luigi is a playable character in the 2019 platformer New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. This expanded version of NSMBU for Wii U includes the New Super Luigi U expansion, where Luigi takes the spotlight with his higher jump, level remixes, and a 100-second timer for each level.
Alongside Mario, Toad, and Toadette, Luigi is one of four playable characters in Super Mario Maker 2. This level-building platformer lets players craft their own Mario levels using assets from Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros. U, and Super Mario 3D World.
Like the original Wii U release, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury can be played entirely as Luigi. He controls similarly to Mario, but with a slightly higher jump and less traction, resulting in a more 'floaty' and 'slippery' gameplay experience.
Luigi joins Mario and friends on the golf course in Mario Golf: Super Rush. As one of 22 playable characters, his decent control and excellent speed stats make him an ideal choice for Super Rush’s new Speed Golf mode. His special shot, Ice Flower Freeze, freezes the ground upon impact, creating a hazard for opponents.
Luigi returns for the second iteration of Mario Party on Switch: Mario Party Superstars. Unlike Super Mario Party, Superstars is a modern collection of minigames, boards, and mechanics from the series’ past.
Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, the latest Mario soccer/football game, includes Luigi as one of 16 playable characters. As a well-balanced footballer, he excels in technique, which enhances his dribbling, shot curving, and shooting accuracy.
Luigi and Rabbid Luigi returned in Ubisoft and Nintendo’s tactical sequel, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Labeled as a Sneak Attacker, Luigi's ranged weaponry and low health make him a strategic choice.
In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the latest 2D Mario platformer, Luigi serves as a playable alternative to Mario. The only difference between the two characters is aesthetic, as they play identically.
As expected, Luigi is playable in Super Mario Party Jamboree, the largest and arguably best game in Nintendo’s flagship party series. Beyond being a playable character, Luigi participates in Jamboree’s new Buddy mechanic, potentially changing dice rolls to 10s.
