Konami Announces a Suikoden Game for Mobile Called Suikoden STAR LEAP

Suikoden is back—sort of. Konami and MYTHRIL have announced Suikoden STAR LEAP, a new mobile RPG for Android and iOS, set to be a free-to-play experience. While a release date remains unannounced, a launch later this year is anticipated.

For the uninitiated, the Suikoden series, originally conceived by Yoshitaka Murayama and developed/published by Konami since 1995, draws inspiration from the classic Chinese novel Water Margin. Known for its blend of political intrigue, True Runes, and the iconic 108 Stars of Destiny, the series boasts eleven entries (including spin-offs), with the last main installment released in 2012. Instead of a direct sequel or full-fledged revival, Konami is delivering Suikoden STAR LEAP as a mobile game.

What Awaits in Suikoden STAR LEAP?

Suikoden STAR LEAP introduces a fresh cast of characters while retaining the series' signature gathering of 108 heroes. The game employs pixel art, preserving the classic Suikoden aesthetic. See for yourself:

The narrative centers on the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes shaping the world. The protagonist, Hou, son of a village chief, experiences a sudden shift in fortune after a successful hunt when disaster strikes and his village is attacked. This event propels Hou on a quest for peace alongside Hisui (his servant with a mysterious emotional repression), Shirin (his childhood friend with a strong sense of justice), and Shapur (a former general turned butler).

Mixed reactions from the community are expected. Longtime fans have eagerly awaited a proper continuation, and the release of STAR LEAP, a gacha game, may not fully satisfy those expectations.

Further details will emerge closer to the game's release. For the latest updates, visit the official website.
