Nintendo Switch 2: Genki Reveals Key Features and Design Details

Genki, a prominent accessory maker for handheld gaming devices, recently unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design features and confirming prior speculation. The mockup, based on a reportedly black-market acquired Switch 2, accurately reflects the console's dimensions, showcasing a larger form factor closer in size to the Valve Steam Deck.

Key features highlighted include magnetic Joy-Con controllers, a second USB-C port, and a mysterious "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic nature of the SL and SR buttons on the Joy-Con, explaining a release mechanism involving pins activated by buttons on each Joy-Con. Despite the magnetic design, the Joy-Con reportedly maintain a secure connection during gameplay.

Further details emerged regarding the Joy-Con's "mounting channel," which incorporates optical sensors. This suggests potential functionality as a mouse, a theory supported by recently leaked Switch 2 images showing what appear to be optical sensors.

While the Switch 2 is slim enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility. Genki remains uncertain about the purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button.
