A recent report by MP1st reveals details about an unannounced remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The information, reportedly sourced from the anonymized portfolio of a former Virtuos Studios developer, suggests a significant undertaking. The project, utilizing Unreal Engine 5, will reportedly feature substantial gameplay overhauls.
This purported remake will not merely be a graphical upgrade. The portfolio indicates a complete reimagining of Oblivion's core mechanics. Changes are planned for stamina management, stealth systems, combat (including blocking and archery), damage feedback, and the user interface. The blocking system, for instance, is said to take inspiration from Soulslike games, addressing criticisms of the original's underwhelming implementation. Damage calculations and visual hit reactions will also be improved, aiming for a more responsive and engaging combat experience. The UI and archery mechanics will also receive modernizations.
MP1st theorizes that the project, initially possibly conceived as a remaster (as hinted at by leaked Microsoft documents), has expanded into a full-scale remake.
While sources confirm the Oblivion remake won't appear at the upcoming Developer_Direct, rumors suggest a potential release within the current year.
