Dynasty Warriors: Origins Rises from the Ashes of a Canceled Predecessor

Dynasty Warriors: Origins, launching January 17, 2025, boasts exhilarating hack-and-slash combat set against the backdrop of China's Three Kingdoms period. However, the game's genesis is rooted in the cancellation of its predecessor, the planned Dynasty Warriors 10.

Omega Force, the development studio, revealed that technological advancements spurred this pivotal decision. The team, initially working on Dynasty Warriors 10—a project envisioned as a stage-clearing experience akin to Dynasty Warriors 7—recognized the potential unlocked by the PlayStation 5 and other contemporary consoles. This realization led to a strategic shift, resulting in the creation of Dynasty Warriors: Origins.

While abandoning Dynasty Warriors 10 proved challenging, the developers salvaged valuable elements. Producer Masamichi Oba highlighted the integration of free-roaming map exploration, a feature initially conceived for the canceled title. Furthermore, the narrative focus on the Three Kingdoms Era's rich history also benefited from this transition. Producer Tomohiko Sho emphasized that leveraging the power of modern consoles allowed for a superior Dynasty Warriors experience.

The resulting game, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, offers a refined and strategically enhanced gameplay experience, incorporating the best aspects of previous installments while introducing innovative features born from the ashes of its canceled predecessor. The game's unique amnesiac protagonist further adds a layer of intrigue to the familiar Three Kingdoms setting.
