Open Drive, the groundbreaking racing game for mobile, is now available in early access on Android. This innovative title is developed by SpecialEffect, a charity dedicated to helping physically disabled gamers enjoy video games, in collaboration with Sun & Moon Studios. Open Drive is designed to be a highly accessible game, allowing players to choose their preferred method of control, whether it's touch, keyboard and mouse, switch access, or a controller.
Open Drive is all about flexibility and inclusivity. It's crafted to let you play in the way that suits you best. One of its standout features is the mobile-specific eye control, which supports players using eye gaze cameras to steer by simply looking left or right. This feature is a game-changer for accessibility, especially for those with physical challenges who find traditional touch or gamepad inputs difficult. The game spans four distinct open worlds: Stunt, Speed, Snow, and Meadow, ensuring a diverse and engaging experience.
Gameplay in Open Drive is incredibly versatile. Whether you're looking to relax and collect orbs, chase high scores, or perform daring jumps with vehicles like the Roadster, Trickster, or Speedster, the game caters to your style. You can also adjust the speed to your liking, making it perfect for both casual and competitive players. Open Drive intelligently auto-detects your control method and adapts seamlessly. It fully supports Switch Access on Android, making it even more accessible. Each control method has its own tailored setup. For touch controls, you can choose between 'Precise' and 'Classic' modes, enabling you to steer with taps or directional control.
Similar customized setups are available for Switch Access, mouse, keyboard, and Android-compatible gamepads/controllers. Although the eye control feature isn't fully implemented yet, Open Drive is currently available in early access on Android. The complete version, including the eye control functionality, is set to be released later this summer and will be free to try. You can explore it now on the Google Play Store.
