The much-anticipated reboot of the beloved Narnia series, helmed by the acclaimed writer and director of the Barbie movie, Greta Gerwig, has added the talented Carey Mulligan to its stellar cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan joins an impressive lineup that includes former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and the legendary Meryl Streep.
Gerwig, who is set to write and direct this new interpretation of C.S. Lewis' classic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia, will bring her unique vision to the screen. The upcoming film will adapt the prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, which unfolds before the events of the iconic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Carey Mulligan, celebrated for her numerous accolades including Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominations, is slated to portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig will take on the role of the titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey will embody a youthful version of Narnia's notorious White Witch. Meryl Streep will lend her voice to the majestic Aslan, the series' god-like talking lion.
This isn't the first time Narnia has enchanted audiences on the big screen. Between 2005 and 2010, a trilogy of films adapted the first three Narnia books: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. These earlier films featured Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.
Gerwig's latest venture follows the success of her 2023 film, Barbie, which starred Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling and garnered eight Academy Award nominations, ultimately winning for Best Original Song. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is eagerly awaited and is scheduled for release in 2026.
