Bandai Namco has made the surprising announcement of shutting down PAC-MAN Mobile, which adds a bittersweet note to the legendary icon's 45th anniversary celebration this year. This mobile version of the classic game, initially released over a decade ago and formerly known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered much more than just nostalgic arcade vibes.
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases were discontinued starting April 1st, but players can continue to enjoy the game until the final date. If you're among those still playing, you have until May 30th to indulge in the classic experience.
The decision to completely shut down the game rather than make it available offline has sparked disappointment among many players. An offline version would have been a welcomed option, potentially continuing to generate revenue for Bandai Namco.
PAC-MAN Mobile was more than just the iconic 8-bit arcade mode. It featured a Story Mode with numerous original mazes, an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events offering exclusive skins, and a Tournament Mode with weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels. Additionally, the game provided a variety of skins for PAC-MAN, ghosts, and even the joystick, enhancing the overall experience.
The decision to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile stems from persistent issues and bugs that have accumulated over the years, making the game increasingly problematic. Reflecting on the initial excitement surrounding its launch on Android, players fondly remember the competitive spirit of grinding for high scores and climbing the leaderboards.
If you're looking to experience PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its shutdown, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
