Early test screenings eased those concerns, Gunn told Esquire Philippines.

"Not really, because test audiences weren't confused," he revealed. "The feedback proves it works."

Gunn likened Superman's relationships to any protagonist's social circles - just with superpowers involved.

"Every protagonist has friends - Superman has work friends and outside friends," Gunn explained. "Whether the Justice Gang counts as coworkers or buddies is debatable, but they're no different than supporting characters in any film."

"Their costumes and powers don't change that fundamental dynamic."
