Pokemon GO is renowned for its frequent events throughout the month, and the weekly Spotlight Hours are particularly popular, focusing on one or more Pokemon that players can catch, and potentially snag a Shiny version of. Let's dive into all you need to know about this week's event.

Voltorb & Hisuian Voltorb Spotlight Hour

The Pokemon GO Spotlight Hour kicks off on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 6 PM to 7 PM local time. This week's spotlight features Voltorb and Hisuian Voltorb, giving players a chance to catch both and possibly encounter their Shiny variants. These Pokemon offer significant benefits, especially when extra damage is needed in battles.

Given the double feature of this Spotlight Hour, players should ensure they have ample Pokeballs, Berries, and Incense. These items will increase the chances of catching and evolving these Pokemon, including their Shiny forms. It's also wise to free up some space in your Pokemon storage, as you'll be catching plenty and might not want to pause to transfer during the event.

Starting with Voltorb, this Kanto Generation 1 Pokemon, known as #100 in the Pokedex, can be traded and transferred to Pokemon Home. Upon catching, Voltorb rewards 3 candies and 100 Stardust. It's the first stage of a two-stage evolution, requiring 50 candies to evolve into Electrode. With a maximum CP of 1141, 109 Attack, and 111 Defense, Voltorb is a handy ally when you need a damage boost. Next up is Hisuian Voltorb, also numbered #100 in the Pokedex, and part of the Voltorb family. Like its counterpart, it's from Kanto Generation 1 and can be traded or transferred to Pokemon Home. It evolves into Hisuian Electrode with 50 candies and offers the same catch rewards of 3 candies and 100 Stardust. Sharing the same stats as Voltorb, with 1141 CP, 111 Defense, and 109 Attack, Hisuian Voltorb is also an Electric-type Pokemon.

The key difference lies in its damage interactions: it takes increased damage from Bug, Fire, Ice, and Poison types (160% damage), reduced damage from Grass, Steel, and Water types (63% damage), and significantly reduced damage from other Electric types (39% damage). The best moveset for Hisuian Voltorb is Tackle and Thunderbolt, which delivers 5.39 DPS and 37.60 TDO, with boosts in Partly Cloudy and Rainy weather. Its Shiny version sports a black body instead of the usual orange.
