Ubisoft has confidently reported that preorders for their much-anticipated open-world adventure, Assassin's Creed Shadows, are robust despite the game's challenging development and promotional journey. According to their latest financial report, the game's preorders are performing comparably to those of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, marking it as the second most successful title in the franchise.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has expressed strong optimism about the game, stating, "We are fully focused on the upcoming launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows on March 20." He highlighted the positive feedback from early previews, which have lauded the game's compelling narrative and immersive experience. The dual protagonist approach has been particularly praised for enhancing the gameplay and storytelling.

Guillemot also took the opportunity to praise the team behind Assassin's Creed Shadows, saying, "I want to commend the incredible talent and dedication of the entire Assassin’s Creed team, who are working tirelessly to ensure that Shadows delivers on the promise of what is the franchise’s most ambitious entry yet."

Originally slated for a November release, Assassin's Creed Shadows was first delayed to February 14, and then again to its current launch date of March 20. As the first full Assassin's Creed title set in Japan since 2020, and with Ubisoft facing recent commercial challenges, the success of Shadows is crucial.

Despite these high hopes, the game's promotional period has been marred by several controversies. The development team has had to issue apologies for inaccuracies in the game's depiction of Japan and for using a historical recreation group's flag without permission. Additionally, collectible figure maker PureArts withdrew an Assassin's Creed Shadows statue from sale due to its "insensitive" design. Coupled with the delays, these issues have led to growing impatience among fans.
