NetherRealm Studios has unveiled the first gameplay footage for the T-1000, a DLC guest character from the iconic Terminator 2 film, set to join Mortal Kombat 1. The T-1000's moveset evokes memories of the movie, featuring blade and hook arms reminiscent of Baraka and Kabal's attacks. A standout moment shows the T-1000 morphing into a liquid metal blob before executing an uppercut similar to Glacius from Killer Instinct. Voiced and modeled after Robert Patrick, the original T-1000, the character's gameplay includes a Fatality that recreates the film's famous truck chase scene, culminating in a brutal end for Johnny Cage.
In a surprising twist, NetherRealm also announced Madam Bo as a new DLC Kameo fighter. A beloved character from the Mortal Kombat 1 storyline, Madam Bo is known for her valiant stand against Smoke and his henchmen. Her gameplay is briefly showcased, assisting the T-1000 in battle.
The T-1000 will be available starting March 18 for early access to Khaos Reigns owners, with a wider release on March 25. Madam Bo will also be accessible from March 18 as a free update for Khaos Reigns owners or as a standalone purchase.
As the final addition to the Khaos Reigns expansion, the T-1000 follows other notable DLC characters such as Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian. While fans speculate about the possibility of a third set of DLC characters or a Kombat Pack 3, NetherRealm has not yet confirmed any further plans.
Despite questions about Mortal Kombat 1's sales performance, Warner Bros. Discovery remains committed to the franchise. In November, CEO David Zaslav announced plans to focus on four key titles, including Mortal Kombat. Meanwhile, Ed Boon, the chief of Mortal Kombat development, assured fans in September that NetherRealm had chosen its next project three years ago but would continue supporting Mortal Kombat 1 for the foreseeable future.
Speculation about NetherRealm's next game centers around a third installment in the Injustice series, although no official confirmation has been made. The studio's history of alternating between Mortal Kombat and Injustice was disrupted by the release of Mortal Kombat 1 in 2023, a decision influenced by factors including the COVID-19 pandemic and the switch to Unreal Engine 4. Ed Boon emphasized that the Injustice franchise is far from dead, leaving fans hopeful for future developments.
