Home > News > How Much Will Switch 2 Cost? Nintendo Says It Needs to Consider ‘The Price Range That Consumers Expect for Nintendo Products’
Nintendo is carefully considering several factors to determine the Switch 2's price. While analysts predict a $400 price point, Nintendo remains tight-lipped, citing inflation, fluctuating exchange rates, and consumer expectations as key considerations. This contrasts with the original Switch's $299.99 launch price, maintained for years.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa acknowledged the significant economic shifts since the original Switch's 2017 release, stating that a multifaceted approach is necessary for pricing the Switch 2. He emphasized the need to consider consumer price expectations for Nintendo products in the current market.
The pricing decision is further complicated by competitors Sony and Microsoft's recent price increases for their current-generation consoles, driven by rising costs and economic instability. Analysts' $400 prediction for the Switch 2 represents a considerable jump from the original Switch's launch price and the $350 OLED model, suggesting a more powerful console. However, the Switch 2's specifications and features remain largely unknown, aside from a brief video reveal showcasing a potential "mouse" mode for the new Joy-Cons and a glimpse of what appears to be Mario Kart 9.
More details are expected at a dedicated Switch 2 Direct presentation scheduled for April 2nd. This event will offer a closer look at the console's features, including the function of a mysterious new Joy-Con button, the console's processing power, and the purpose of its new ports. Hands-on events will also be held globally. Meanwhile, Nintendo confirmed that the original Switch's price will remain unchanged.
