Some of my most cherished childhood memories involve playing cooperative games with friends during summer vacations. As an adult, summers somehow lost their magic - whether it's the burdens of responsibility or the scarcity of quality couch co-op games, I can't say for certain. But occasionally, a remarkable game comes along that perfectly captures that nostalgic sense of unrestrained fun.

Split Fiction, the highly anticipated sequel from It Takes Two developer Hazelight Studios, launched earlier this year with another extraordinary cooperative adventure specifically designed for two players. Although released just months ago, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions have already dropped to $35 during Prime Day. This limited-time offer expires at midnight PT tonight.
Like its award-winning predecessor (which won Game of the Year at the 2021 Game Awards), Split Fiction delivers a brilliant split-screen experience playable both locally and online. The game includes a Friend Pass feature, meaning you only need one copy to play with a partner.
The gameplay alternates between sci-fi and fantasy realms, requiring seamless teamwork to solve creative puzzles. Our review scored it 9/10, praising how "Split Fiction masterfully maintains engagement by constantly evolving its gameplay." It's already secured a spot on our Best Games of 2025 list.
Do I need to play It Takes Two first?
While both games share Hazelight's signature cooperative design, Split Fiction features completely original characters and storylines. You can absolutely enjoy it as a standalone experience, though series veterans will appreciate some clever references.
