Spider-Man stands out among Marvel heroes thanks to his deep roster of supporting characters and villains, making him a strong candidate to anchor his own cinematic universe. At least, that was the logic at Sony when they launched the Spider-Man Universe of spinoff films and series. Today, only a handful of those projects remain in active development – most notably, the next live-action Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland, currently referred to as the untitled Spider-Man 4.
In the meantime, other entries like Madame Web, Morbius, and Kraven arrived, underperformed, and left a lasting — if not commercially successful — impression. The Venom trilogy has completed its run, while Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is set to receive another sequel following Across the Spider-Verse. Additionally, a Spider-Man Noir series is moving forward with Nicolas Cage attached to star.
Although recent reports indicate Sony is slowing development on new Spider-Man villain spinoffs, several projects are still advancing, while others remain in limbo.
