Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Revealed New Details for the Update

Closed Beta Begins March 13, 2025

Ubisoft has officially announced on their website that Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) will host its Closed Beta from March 13th at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET/ 8 PM CET to March 19th at the same times. The beta kicks off right after the R6 Siege X Showcase, offering fans an early taste of what's to come.

To participate in the R6 Siege X Closed Beta, tune into the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or watch through selected Content Creators' Twitch streams to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The beta will be accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

However, some players have reported issues with not receiving the expected email containing the access code for the R6 Siege X Closed Beta. Ubisoft Support acknowledged this issue on Twitter (X) on March 14 and is actively working to resolve it and send out the emails as soon as possible.

It's crucial to understand that R6 Siege X is not a new game but a significant update that elevates Siege with stunning graphical and technical enhancements.

New 6v6 Game Mode Dual Front

Ubisoft unveiled Dual Front, a dynamic new 6v6 game mode that promises "foundational upgrades to the core game," including visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, rappel upgrades, and more. Alongside these, revamped player protection systems and free access will invite players to experience the tactical action of Rainbow Six Siege at no cost.

Dual Front will unfold on a new map called District, where two teams of six Operators will engage in simultaneous attack and defense strategies across enemy sectors. This novel approach introduces new possibilities for gadget combinations and tactical ingenuity.

Despite the introduction of Dual Front, the classic Siege mode remains, now rebranded as "Core Siege." This mode will feature modernized versions of five maps: Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe, with enhanced textures and destructible materials. Initially, only these five maps will be updated, with plans to modernize three more maps each subsequent season.

Free Access Starting Season 2 of Year 10

After a decade, Rainbow Six Siege will become free-to-play starting in Season 2 of Year 10, aligning with the trends set by its competitors. Originally launched in 2015 when paid multiplayer games were the norm, Siege's shift to a free model reflects the evolution of the live-service game landscape.

At the R6 Siege X Showcase in Atlanta on March 13, Game Director Alexander Karpazis shared with PC Gamer the team's aim to introduce the game to new audiences. "We want people to invite their friends to try out Siege, and we want to give them the majority of the game so that they understand what makes this game so special," he said. Karpazis emphasized that the social aspect of the game thrives when played with friends, reducing the entry barrier.

Free access will cover Unranked, Quick Play, and the new Dual Front modes. However, Ranked mode and the Siege Cup will remain exclusive to those with premium access. This strategy, as explained by former Game Director Leroy Athanassoff in a 2020 interview with PC Gamer, aims to deter smurfs and cheaters while maintaining a competitive environment for committed players.

Siege 2 Was Never On The Table

Contrary to expectations, Ubisoft never considered developing Siege 2, even as the game celebrates its 10-year anniversary. Unlike other FPS titles that have released sequels, such as Overwatch 2 and Counter-Strike 2, R6 Siege opted for a significant update to ensure longevity and respect for its player base.

Karpazis shared that the focus was always on doing what was best for Siege and its community. "Siege X has been in development for around three years, running parallel to Siege’s seasonal updates," he said. The goal with Siege X is to build on the existing experience and set the stage for another decade of gameplay. "Siege X is our commitment to making big, meaningful changes and showing our appreciation for the community that has supported us for so long," Karpazis added.

Rainbow Six Siege X is slated for release on June 10, 2025, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay informed with the latest updates by checking out our dedicated Rainbow Six Siege article below!
