Following the release of Superman on July 11, which marks the launch of Gunn's reimagined DC Universe (DCU), Peacemaker Season 2 becomes the third installment in the revamped franchise. This follows last year's Creature Commandos series and the upcoming film Superman.

The new DCU departs from the much-criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which featured films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the previous universe will carry over. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, as its first season was part of the old DCEU, while its second season is set in the new DCU.

Gunn mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent" in Peacemaker's storyline, though specifics about what carries over from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He confirmed that the entire *Team Peacemaker* cast will return, including John Cena as the lead, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo. Additionally, the show will canonically follow the events of *Creature Commandos* and *Superman*, with the latter's impact influencing the plot of *Peacemaker* Season 2.
