Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order details and pricing for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 and its accompanying accessories. Despite maintaining the base console price, the cost of various accessories has seen a significant increase, prompting early adopters to reconsider their pre-order strategies.

The Nintendo Switch 2 retains its original pricing structure, with the standard model priced at $449.99 and the Mario Kart World bundle priced at $499.99. The standalone versions of Mario Kart and Donkey Kong Bananza will retail for $79.99 and $69.99, respectively.

However, the landscape of accessory pricing has undergone substantial changes. Below is a detailed breakdown of the updated costs:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller: $84.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Pair: $94.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip: $39.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Strap: $13.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set: $24.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Camera: $54.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set: $119.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector: $39.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case: $84.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter: $34.99

In its official statement, Nintendo cited "market conditions" as the reason behind these price adjustments, which were initially announced on April 2. For major items such as the Joy-Con 2 Pair, Switch 2 Pro Controller, or the camera, a $5 increase appears to be the norm. The Switch 2 Dock Set saw a more noticeable hike, rising from $109.99 to $119.99—a $10 increase.

Fan reactions have been mixed, with many expressing surprise at the elevated costs of essential accessories. For instance, purchasing a second pair of Joy-Cons now approaches the triple-digit mark, which has left potential buyers questioning the affordability.

Despite the price hikes, Nintendo reassures customers that several Switch 1 accessories remain compatible with the Switch 2. This includes the original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller, both of which can be used wirelessly. Additionally, third-party controllers may offer a budget-friendly alternative, albeit with limited functionality.

While the prices could fluctuate further in response to market conditions, Nintendo’s announcement suggests that existing accessories from the first generation may provide a viable option for those seeking cost-effective alternatives.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will commence on April 24, 2025.
