NetEase Games Issues Warning: Marvel Rivals Modders Face Potential Bans

NetEase Games, developer and publisher of the popular team shooter Marvel Rivals, has issued a stern warning to players utilizing mods. The company explicitly stated that any modification of the game, regardless of nature (cosmetic or gameplay-enhancing), violates the terms of service and risks permanent account bans.

This announcement follows the release of Season 1, which introduced hero adjustments, two new Fantastic Four members (Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic), and a built-in anti-modding mechanism. Despite this, resourceful modders quickly found workarounds. Reports from IGN highlight a Nexus Mods add-on that bypasses the game's asset hash checks, allowing modifications. One such mod, created by user Prafit, even transforms Mister Fantastic into One Piece's Luffy. Another, by user Ercuallo, was showcased on Twitter by RivalsLeaks.

While NetEase Games hasn't publicly confirmed any bans yet, the company emphasizes that modding remains a violation of the terms of service. Although some mods, including one featuring Donald Trump, have been removed from Nexus Mods, Prafit's workaround persists, boasting over 500 downloads.

The situation underscores the ongoing tension between modding communities and game developers. While Marvel Rivals has experienced issues with false bans since launch, the consequences of modding are now explicitly clear. The future actions of NetEase Games in response to this remain to be seen.
