Here’s Image Comics’ official synopsis for Lost Fantasy:
"In a magical realm hidden beneath our own, first contact occurred over a century ago due to a natural disaster, creating a rift that allowed monsters to infiltrate our world. Since then, elite monster hunters known as The Great Hunters have worked alongside global leaders to maintain the boundary and protect humanity from the shadows. But when a breach occurs overnight, leaving a trail of destruction in Montana, the balance begins to unravel. Enter Henry Blackheart, a fledgling hunter tasked with restoring order."
Pires expressed his excitement about the project, saying, "I’m thrilled to be back at Image Comics with Lost Fantasy, a series blending the epic scope of Western titles like East of West and Something Is Killing The Children with the intricate world-building and thrilling combat of the JRPGs I adore. Characters like Snow White's spikey-haired hero and their oversized sword are direct nods to Tetsuya Nomura’s iconic designs."
He continued, "The 'Lost' in the title is also a tribute to Hironobu Sakaguchi’s Lost Odyssey, another gem from his legendary career. This comic is a celebration of JRPG culture at its core."
