Wordsmiths have a new challenge to master: a roguelike word game, as described by its developers. It's called Letterlike, an inventive blend of Balatro's thrill and Scrabble's classic wordplay. Merging a rich vocabulary with roguelike unpredictability? That's a truly novel combination.
As a roguelike, every run offers a freshly generated mix of letters and procedural challenges. This creates nearly limitless potential for unique achievements and victories.
Each game begins with a random set of letters. Your objective is to form valid words, score points, and progress through multiple stages. Every level is structured across three distinct rounds.
To advance, you must earn enough points by creating high-scoring, thoughtful words—similar to the strategy in Scrabble. You have only five attempts, or lives, per round, so use them strategically.
If you're faced with a particularly difficult assortment of letters, stay calm. You can discard a limited number of them, but this resource is scarce, so choose which to remove wisely.
The game also features a rearrange mode, allowing you to drag, drop, and shuffle letters freely to find the best possible word combinations.
In each level's final round, a special modifier activates, rendering certain letters worthless for scoring. Essentially, they'll contribute zero points to your total.
You can spend the points and rewards you earn on various items to enhance your runs. Some bonuses apply automatically, while others remain locked until you reach specific milestones. The gems you collect can also be used to unlock powerful permanent upgrades, smoothing the path for future attempts.
Letterlike offers a simple, minimalist, yet deeply engaging experience. You can even replay specific runs with friends by sharing session seeds. Found yourself with an impossibly tricky set of letters? Share that seed and challenge your friends to beat it.
The game is a one-time purchase, completely ad-free, and fully playable offline. If you're on the fence, a free demo version is available to try. Interested? Find Letterlike on the Google Play Store and take the demo for a spin.
