Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has been setting new benchmarks for concurrent player numbers on Steam since its release. Dive in to discover the game's remarkable achievements and what's on the horizon for future updates.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has surpassed 250,000 concurrent players on Steam as of February 9, 2025. The game's Creative Director, Daniel Vávra, proudly announced on Twitter (X) that KCD2 reached a peak of 256,206 concurrent players. The game has consistently broken its own records daily from February 4 to February 9.
Reports indicate that KCD2 has achieved approximately 890,000 sales on Steam alone. Currently, it ranks as the second top-selling game on Steam, just behind Counter-Strike 2, and the fifth most-played game, trailing CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana.
With 1 million copies sold on launch day, KCD2 is on track to reach 2 million copies sold based on the latest estimates.
The success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing player immersion and enjoyment. Known for its commitment to realism, the series continues to push boundaries with features like food spoilage, the need for cleaning clothes and armor, and sword maintenance. KCD2 introduces new elements that further immerse players in a 15th-century medieval setting.
Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a new stealth mechanic where players accumulate dirt and grime, eventually leading to a debuff. "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you," Bittner explained. "Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."
The game also introduces "handgonnes," a historically accurate depiction of early firearms. Bittner told PC Gamer that these weapons are challenging to use, with long reload times, poor accuracy, and safety concerns. "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it," he admitted.
KCD2 PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their focus on authenticity over hyperaccuracy. "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible," he stated.
Warhorse Studios has outlined a comprehensive post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content throughout 2025.
Free updates scheduled for Spring 2025 include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing. Paid DLCs will roll out starting in Summer with "Brushes with Death," followed by "Legacy of the Forge" in Autumn, and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" in Winter.
With its stellar opening weekend performance, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial success with these updates and future DLCs, potentially setting new records along the way.
