In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, like its predecessors, you'll battle across ancient China alongside various warlords before ultimately choosing your allegiance. This guide explains faction selection.
Understanding Factions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
The game unfolds in chapters. The first two chapters feature the Wanderer (your character), operating independently, assisting Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei in battles such as the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate.
Chapter 3 presents the crucial faction choice. Before making this commitment, you'll have opportunities to engage in battles with each faction to better understand their strengths and weaknesses.
To ally with a specific faction, you must complete a certain number of missions: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Once you meet this requirement, a new mission will trigger, forcing you to choose a side. Only factions with completed missions will be selectable. You can, however, complete all factions' missions before making a final decision.
Your choice is permanent. The unchosen faction becomes inaccessible for the remainder of the game; you can no longer accept side quests from their officers, hindering your bond and skill point acquisition. Faction choice impacts difficulty; for example, allying with Liu Bei, who initially has fewer commanding officers, limits early skill point earning opportunities.
Each faction offers unique missions. To experience all content, create a save before choosing a kingdom and reload it to explore alternative paths.
Faction selection in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is thus a strategic decision with lasting consequences. Dynasty Warriors: Origins is available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
