HBO Defends Safety Protocols After 2014 Game of Thrones Stunt Injury Resurfaces||||

Following the emergence of unreleased footage showing a 2014 stunt accident during Game of Thrones production, HBO has reaffirmed its commitment to workplace safety. The incident involved stunt performer Andy Pilgrim suffering a fractured ankle while filming a sequence for Season 5's "Hardhome" episode.
Legal documents reveal the accident occurred when a 16-foot wooden wall fell unexpectedly during a modified stunt procedure. While the network didn't dispute the injury occurred, they've strongly supported their longtime stunt coordinator Rowley Irlam.
Irlam, who continues working as House of the Dragon's stunt coordinator, stated: "Having coordinated stunts for over two decades, safety remains my top priority. While deeply regrettable, this isolated incident was resolved years ago with no findings of fault."
Pilgrim reportedly accepted a £500,000 settlement in 2018 and continued working on the show afterward. However, another performer Casey Michaels suffered career-ending injuries during Season 8 under Irlam's supervision and later received a £7 million settlement.

HBO maintains confidence in their current safety measures: "We take all accidents seriously. Mr. Irlam's extensive experience and demonstrated competence meet our rigorous production standards," a network spokesperson stated.
The studio noted its ongoing investment in preventative safety technologies and updated protocols for prequels like House of the Dragon, which currently maintains an injury-free production record through two seasons.
