The tower defense genre may be feeling a bit crowded these days, especially with its frequent use in promotional ads. But Sandsoft Games, the creators behind the beloved Pocket Necromancer, have entered the fray with their latest release, Fortress Frontline, now available on Google Play for Android users.

Fortress Frontline brings a refreshing twist to the classic wave-based roguelite tower defense formula. It's simple yet engaging: you're tasked with defending one side of the screen against endless waves of enemies, ranging from the feeble to the formidable. As you progress through multiple runs, you can tweak your loadout and unlock permanent upgrades, all in pursuit of achieving the highest survival score possible.

While I might usually find it challenging to get excited about yet another tower defense game, Fortress Frontline stands out thanks to Sandsoft Games' reputation and the game's charmingly cartoony art style. There's a lot to appreciate here, from the visual appeal to the gameplay mechanics.

Fortress Frontline Gameplay

Clashing castles - But what about the mechanics? Fortress Frontline enhances your defense with heroes and rare cards, adding depth to your strategy. Plus, a global leaderboard lets you track your progress and compete against players worldwide, although most of us might find ourselves somewhere in the middle rather than at the top. The game takes inspiration from the roguelite genre, much like Vampire Survivors, where the power-ups lead to increasingly spectacular attacks.
