Here at Droid Gamers, we receive all kinds of tech to review, but a projector is a first for us. The Formovie Episode One projector seemed like a perfect fit to check out, given its ability to stream mobile games onto a much larger screen.

It promises to be a projector for those on a budget—an area where projectors are typically very expensive—and we think the Episode One meets that goal, and more. Even if it has a few rough edges.

Inside the box, you'll find the projector itself, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and the manual. It has a solid, weighty feel, though it perhaps lacks the dense heft of premium models.

This actually makes it highly portable. At just three pounds, it's easy to take with you wherever you go.

Some users might find the port selection a bit limited, with only one USB-A port, one HDMI input, and a single audio jack. However, this is understandable for the price and will cover the basics for most people.

In terms of performance, the Episode One holds its own for the cost. It features 150 ISO lumens, so it's not the brightest or most powerful laser projector available.

During our tests, it struggled in direct sunlight but performed very well in darker conditions—which is expected, but still good to confirm.

Every movie and TV show we tried displayed clearly, and our streamed gaming sessions worked smoothly.

We found the optimal viewing distance to be at least 10 feet away. The built-in audio output is tolerable, though not exceptional.

The internal speaker does sound rather thin and tinny. While it's usable, we'd definitely recommend connecting an external speaker to the Episode One if possible.

The user interface is one of the unit's stronger points. Setup and navigation are straightforward, and its simple, budget-conscious approach is actually easier to use than some overly complicated high-end projectors we've tried.

Overall, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent first projector. It doesn't excel in any single area but is a dependable all-rounder that will perfectly meet the needs of most casual users.

Purchasing an Episode One projector also includes a Netflix gift card (worth $15/€15)—an offer available only until May 27th. Click here to learn more.
