After years of persistent fan requests, The Elder Scrolls Online introduces game-changing subclasses. Discover how this feature enhances gameplay and what’s coming next in Tamriel's evolving universe.
Marking its decade-long legacy, Zenimax Online Studios unveiled groundbreaking updates during ESO Direct 2025. The highlight? A subclassing system finally answering fans' long-standing demands.
Players previously faced limited character flexibility—new skill trees meant starting fresh. Now, subclasses let veterans customize builds effortlessly by mixing skill lines without resetting progress.
Upon reaching Level 50, players keep one foundational skill line while replacing two others from any of six available classes. This creates unprecedented diversity—3,000 potential combinations to refine individual playstyles.
Game Director Rich Lambert assures rigorous testing ensures balance despite anticipated power shifts: "We're confident in this system's equilibrium."
Zenimax transitions to seasonal content models, enabling more experimental updates. Studio Director Matt Firor explains: "Seasonal formats allow us to blend compelling narratives with innovative mechanics while maintaining consistent engagement."
Launching this vision is Seasons of the Worm Cult, continuing Molag Bal's decade-old storyline. Players explore the Isle of Solstice, uncovering the cult's mysterious resurgence.
While this season spans most of 2025, future installments will run shorter—typically 3-6 months. Developers hint at revisiting classic arcs, including Dark Brotherhood-themed content.
