Dungeons & Dragons Live Action Netflix Series in the Works, Could Launch a ‘D&D Universe’

Netflix is developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series based in the Forgotten Realms, according to Deadline. The project, one of Netflix's largest fantasy TV investments, will be helmed by Shawn Levy (director of Deadpool and Wolverine), with Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) serving as writer and showrunner. The Forgotten Realms setting is familiar to fans, having been featured in the recent film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and the popular video game Baldur's Gate 3. While Netflix and Hasbro haven't commented officially, Deadline reports that after extensive negotiations, the series is moving forward into development and could potentially launch a larger D&D universe on the platform.

While this live-action series shows promise, there's currently no news regarding a sequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, despite its popularity with fans. Chris Pine, a star of the film, expressed his desire for a sequel in November 2023, but no official announcements have followed. Paramount CEO Brian Robbins indicated openness to a sequel, contingent on a reduced budget. Meanwhile, Amazon's Secret Level anthology series features a D&D animated segment.
