Corinne Busche, the director behind the acclaimed game Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly set to depart from EA's BioWare in the coming weeks. According to Eurogamer, Busche, who led the project from February 2022 until its launch last October, will be leaving the studio. IGN has reached out to EA for further comment on this development.

Since its release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has sparked discussions regarding its success. However, Eurogamer has clarified that Busche's departure is not connected to the game's commercial performance, and the studio remains stable despite this change. EA is expected to reveal more about its financial performance, including any insights into Dragon Age: The Veilguard's sales, when it reports its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4.

Busche joined BioWare in 2019, having previously worked at Maxis on The Sims projects. Her leadership was instrumental in steering Dragon Age: The Veilguard through its final development stages, culminating in a successful shift from a multiplayer framework to a standalone single-player RPG. This journey was detailed in IGN's article, 'How BioWare Finally Got Dragon Age to the Finish Line After a Tumultuous Decade,' which highlighted the game's nearly decade-long development and its significant overhaul.

BioWare has confirmed that there are no plans for DLC for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, signaling a shift in focus towards Mass Effect 5. Despite various teases, the studio has yet to fully unveil the next installment in the Mass Effect series.

In August 2023, BioWare experienced significant layoffs, affecting around 50 employees, including long-term staff like narrative designer Mary Kirby. These layoffs were part of a broader restructuring at EA, which saw the company split into sports and other divisions. Amidst these changes, Star Wars: The Old Republic transitioned to a third-party developer, allowing BioWare to concentrate on its flagship franchises, Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The journey of Dragon Age: The Veilguard was marked by challenges, including a lukewarm reception to its initial reveal in 2024 and a subsequent name change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard. Despite early negative reactions, the game eventually garnered positive impressions.

As Busche prepares to leave BioWare, fans of the Dragon Age series are left pondering the future. Will there be another sequel following The Veilguard? Only time will tell as BioWare navigates its next chapter.
