According to a report by Deadline, Warner Bros.' previously shelved film, Coyote vs. Acme, may soon find its way to audiences thanks to ongoing negotiations with the Los Angeles-based independent film company, Ketchup Entertainment. The deal, while not yet finalized, could lead to a theatrical release of the movie in 2026.
Coyote vs. Acme, announced in 2022 and inspired by Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker article, features a screenplay co-written by James Gunn and stars Will Forte and John Cena. Originally slated for a mid-2023 release on Max, the film was completed but shelved, sparking a concerted campaign to save it.
Ketchup Entertainment, known for rescuing Warner Bros.' The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie from a similar fate, is at the forefront of these negotiations. Their intervention allowed The Day the Earth Blew Up to secure a theatrical run in the US, marking it as the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to hit cinemas. IGN's review praised the film as a "laugh-out-loud riot."
Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio also includes notable releases such as Hellboy: The Crooked Man and Robert Rodriguez's thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. Additionally, the company co-produced Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic, showcasing their commitment to bringing diverse and engaging films to the big screen.
