Marvel star Chris Hemsworth has shared a tribute video for Thor, prompting fans to speculate about the character’s fate in Avengers: Doomsday.

The video, titled ‘Thank You! The Legacy of Thor,’ features clips of Hemsworth as Thor, from his early audition to his role in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. While it might simply be a nostalgic reflection on a character he’s portrayed since 2011, with Avengers: Doomsday now in production, some fans interpret it as a farewell, signaling Thor’s potential exit.

Hemsworth included a heartfelt note in the video’s description:

“Portraying Thor has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. For 15 years, I’ve wielded Mjolnir and Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly remarkable was sharing this journey with you. Your enthusiasm, support, and love for this character have been everything to me.

“Thank you for making my time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable. Next stop, Doomsday!”

This message, paired with the tribute video, has sparked concern among MCU fans that Hemsworth may be ready to retire his hammer.

“Please don’t leave this role. We want you to stay,” one fan commented on the video. “Never stop being Thor,” another urged.

Social media echoes similar sentiments. “Thor’s definitely not surviving the next film,” one X user posted. “He’s done for,” another remarked.

Context fuels this speculation. Last year, Hemsworth admitted he “didn’t nail” Thor: Love and Thunder, a film that divided fans, and expressed a desire to deliver another movie for the audience.

In a Vanity Fair interview, Hemsworth reflected that he leaned too heavily into humor in Love and Thunder, which faltered compared to the comedic success of Thor: Ragnarok.

“I got carried away with the improvisation and silliness, and I became a caricature of myself,” Hemsworth admitted. “I didn’t deliver.” He feels he owes fans a stronger performance, according to Vanity Fair. Could Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars serve as that redemption, or would a Thor 5 be a more fitting farewell?

Prospects for Thor 5 seemed unlikely after Hemsworth, who has appeared in eight MCU films, suggested he’s ready to “close the chapter” on Thor. Director Taika Waititi, who helmed Ragnarok and Love and Thunder, is also unavailable due to scheduling conflicts.

Marvel recently postponed Avengers: Doomsday to December 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars to December 2027. Currently, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the two Avengers films are the only MCU projects with confirmed release dates.
