Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled yet another trailer for its highly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is fast approaching its release date. This time around, the creators paused to reminisce about one of their most iconic creations: the critically acclaimed wartime survival game, This War of Mine. Released over a decade ago, This War of Mine catapulted the studio to global fame.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing atmosphere, The Alters embraces a more vibrant and often humorous narrative, focusing on the trials faced by alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite these contrasting tones, the developers stress a deep thematic link between the two titles.
Although the settings and atmospheres differ significantly, both games center around the universal theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players navigate the grim realities of war-torn cities, managing resources and overcoming daily challenges to keep their group alive. Conversely, The Alters portrays survival as an urgent race against time, requiring players to constantly relocate their mobile base to escape an unyielding sun that reduces everything to dust.
Both games challenge players to step outside their comfort zones, compelling them to explore dangerous environments in search of vital resources. The primary distinction lies in the protagonists: in This War of Mine, players lead a diverse group of civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a distinctive squad made up of alternate iterations of the main character.
Set to launch in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, The Alters will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one.
