Tarneeb, also known as Blackjack in some Arab countries and particularly the Levant, is a popular card game. In the Arab Gulf states, it's often called "Rule." The goal is to win consecutive Tarneeb rounds, with four players forming two partnerships. Teams play until the end of the rounds, determining the overall winner.
Played with a standard 52-card deck (no Jokers), the game proceeds clockwise, starting with the player to the dealer's left. Four players participate, forming two teams of two. Cards are dealt clockwise, starting from the dealer's right.
Bidding begins with a minimum bid of 7, increasing to 13 ("Cabot/livers"). Bidding proceeds clockwise, starting with the player to the dealer's right. The highest bidder chooses the Tarneeb suit.
If a team fails to meet their bid, the difference is deducted from their score. For example, if a team bids 10 but only collects 9, they lose 1 point (10-9=1), and the opposing team gains 4 points (10-9=1, 1+3=4). If the opposing team's score is 5, the difference is revealed.
The game concludes when one team reaches either 61 or 31 points, depending on the agreement made before the game begins.
Card ranking is as follows:
Followed by numbered cards 10 to 2.
