VNeID: Vietnam's Electronic Identification and Authentication Application

VNeID, developed by Vietnam's National Population Data Center (Ministry of Public Security), leverages population data for secure identification and electronic authentication. This app is designed for residents and visitors in Vietnam.

VNeID offers a digital alternative to physical documents, enabling secure citizen identification online. It provides various digital services, facilitating digital citizenship, government, and society. Key functionalities include medical report declarations, expedited domestic travel declarations, and assistance in COVID-19 contact tracing for authorities.

App Access Permissions: Using VNeID grants the app access to:

1. Internet access for data transmission.
2. Camera access for scanning CCCD (Citizen Identity Card) QR codes, streamlining information entry and facilitating quick travel/medical declarations.
3. Access to device photos, videos, audio, and files for storing QR code images for verification at checkpoints.
4. Notification access to send alerts to the user.

Personal Information Collection: Users provide data voluntarily when declaring medical information, domestic travel details, or on behalf of others with their consent. Collected information includes: full name, phone number, citizen identification number, gender, birthdate, address, nationality, health status, travel origins and destinations, vehicle license plate, and COVID-19 exposure details. All data collection is explicitly authorized through user form submissions. Users are solely responsible for the accuracy and appropriateness of the information they provide.

Privacy and Data Protection: The National Population Data Center securely stores and protects user data, using it solely for COVID-19 prevention and control, public health, and disease prevention. Data is never used for commercial purposes or to violate user privacy. Data may be shared with health authorities and other relevant agencies to enhance COVID-19 prevention efforts. No other data collection or use occurs beyond these specified purposes. The app adheres to Vietnamese law and its own policy regarding user privacy and will not engage in any harmful or illegal activities.

Key Privacy Features:

• No Location Tracking: VNeID does not collect location data.
• Anonymity: User participation is anonymous unless identified by authorities as infected or a close contact of an infected individual for contact tracing purposes.
