Threads of Time, the eagerly awaited RPG from Riyo Games, is set to bring a fresh, modern twist to the cherished genre of turn-based JRPGs. Announced for release on Xbox and PC, this game promises to blend nostalgic charm with cutting-edge features.
This newly announced game is already generating buzz as a potential rival to 2023's acclaimed RPG, Sea of Stars, and is seen as a spiritual successor to Square Enix's iconic Chrono series. Threads of Time marks Riyo Games' debut with a retro-style turn-based RPG that aims to evoke cherished memories of childhood gaming.
"Riyo Games’ vision is to craft retro-infused RPGs that awaken treasured childhood memories," the studio stated in their press release. "It all started with a promise between two kids, huddled next to their CRT TV playing RPGs after school, to one day create fantastical, story-rich adventures together."
Threads of Time features stunning 2.5D pixel art and invites players to control a diverse cast of characters from various time periods as they journey through fantastical adventures spanning from the age of dinosaurs to the era of mechanical robots. The narrative unfolds over centuries, leading players to unravel a sinister plot that threatens the very fabric of time. Alongside the pixel art, the game includes cutting-edge anime cutscenes that enhance the storytelling experience.
The game introduces a captivating lineup of party members, including Rye, a mysterious young swordsman from 1000 AD; Bo, a skilled veterinarian from 12,000,000 BC; and Rin, a blade-wielding kitsune from 2400 AD, among others. Fans eager to keep up with this title can now wishlist Threads of Time on the Xbox store and Steam.
